Funeral Service FAQs

If you'd like further details about our funeral services, see our commonly asked questions or get in touch with our sensitive and experienced team.

How much does an attended cremation cost?

Attended cremation costs vary between direct cremation providers, but the average attended cremation cost in the UK is £3,980.* At Distinct Cremations, our prices for an affordable Funeral Service start at just £1,899.

* The average cost of cremation in 2024 (SunLife Cost of Dying Report 2025, sunlife.co.uk/funeral-costs)

How many people can attend a cremation service?

At Distinct Cremations, there is no restriction on attendees for our attended funeral service. Our Customer Service Specialists can give you full information about the seating capacity at your chosen crematorium and the service lengths available. Give us a call on 01543 211997.

Can you attend a direct cremation?

Yes, you can attend a direct cremation. Though most direct cremations are unattended, with Distinct Cremations you can attend a cremation for 30 or 60 minutes depending on your choice.

You can read more on our Funeral Service page.

What will the deceased be dressed in for the cremation?

We’ll keep the deceased dressed in the same clothes they were wearing when they entered our care unless otherwise requested. If you’ve got a specific outfit you’d like them to wear, just let us know and provide it prior to the cremation.

What music can I play?

Our crematoriums feature state-of-the-art downloadable music systems, allowing us to play any piece of music you want as long as it's been commercially recorded and released.

What should I do with the ashes?

There are lots of things you can do with the ashes. Many people scatter ashes in a place that was special to the deceased, some keep them in an urn as a keepsake and others have recently started to have ashes turned into jewellery or glass.

How and when do I pay for the funeral?

Upon arranging a funeral, once you’ve agreed the type of service that you’d like, one of our Customer Service Specialists will take the payment in full, which can be made by credit or debit card.

For those planning ahead, we offer funeral plans that can be paid for upfront or in monthly instalments, allowing you to arrange and pay for your funeral in advance.

How long is an attended cremation service?

Cremation service lengths can vary depending on the type of farewell you would like. With our attended cremation services, we offer two service lengths. You can choose to have a service lasting for either 30 or 60 minutes. The time can be used to share memories of your loved one, play a piece of music in honour of the deceased, give a eulogy or simply have a moment of quiet reflection.

For an unattended cremation, there’s no service held before the cremation takes place.

Is the deceased cremated straight after the service?

While we endeavour to cremate the deceased as soon as possible following the service this isn't always possible. However, the cremation is always completed with 24-hours of arrival at the crematorium. Learn more about how long after death is a cremation.
