This FAQ section is based on questions we're often asked by our customers about arranging a funeral.
If there's something you can't find immediately, you can always contact us with your question and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
Though a direct cremation with Distinct Cremations takes place without a service or mourners, the coffin is still respectfully taken through the front door of the crematorium chapel. The coffin is then set down in the crematorium whilst a piece of music chosen by the family is played. After this, the cremation takes place.
Following the cremation, we personally return the ashes to the family within 14 days or scatter them in our garden of remembrance if preferred. Visit our how it works page for more details about our direct cremation services.
A direct cremation is the most straightforward and simple way to say goodbye. If you're looking for a fuss, worry and tradition-free funeral, with little stress and low expense, then a direct cremation may be the perfect solution for you.

We’ll keep the deceased dressed in the same clothes they were wearing when they entered our care unless otherwise requested. If you’ve got a specific outfit you’d like them to wear, just let us know and provide it prior to the cremation.
Many people struggle to afford a funeral because of the rising funeral costs. If you’re arranging the funeral of a loved one and you think you can’t afford it, check if you’re eligible for Government assistance via a Funeral Expenses Payment in England & Wales or check your eligibility and apply for a Funeral Support Payment in Scotland.
With Distinct Cremations, it will take approximately 2-4 weeks to arrange the funeral. This includes the completion of the necessary paperwork and the cremation itself. Once the cremation has taken place, the ashes will be personally returned by our team within 14 days.
