Yes, single payments and instalments up to 12 months are held in a secure Trust which is managed by independent trustees. For 5 & 10 year instalment plans we purchase a “whole of life” policy from Scottish Friendly - an authorised and regulated insurance provider. The proceeds of that policy will be used to pay for your chosen cremation at the time of need.

Yes, it is possible to plan your own funeral and doing so has a number of benefits. With our funeral plans, you can pay for your funeral in advance to relieve your family of the financial burden when the time comes. Funeral planning ahead of time also gives you and your family peace of mind about what will happen and leaves no uncertainty about your wishes. Once your funeral plan is set up the price is set so you are protected from any future rises in funeral costs.

When you take out your plan, you’ll need to make some decisions, such as whether you want a direct cremation or a funeral with a service, the length of the service and, if applicable, which of our crematoriums you prefer.

Other decisions, such as choosing music, readings, and whether to personalise the funeral further, are separate to your plan. You can make a note of your preferences for your family. When the time comes, your family may choose to add elements that are important to them.

You’ll typically receive your documents within five working days of taking out the plan.

Yes, with Distinct Cremations, the removal of medical devices like pacemakers is included in the cost for all our funeral services and funeral plans.

Simplicity charge £90 for the removal of medical devices for a funeral today. However, for those planning ahead, medical device removal is included in their funeral plan price.

The simplest type of funeral is an unattended direct cremation. However, there are attended funeral options.

An attended funeral lets family and friends say their final goodbyes in person as part of the grieving process but keeps arrangements affordable.

Unnecessary extras like hearses, limousines, embalming and viewing of the deceased are not included to keep costs low and funeral arrangements straightforward.

Though a direct cremation with Distinct Cremations takes place without a service or mourners, the coffin is still respectfully taken through the front door of the crematorium chapel. The coffin is then set down in the crematorium whilst a piece of music chosen by the family is played. After this, the cremation takes place.

Following the cremation, we can scatter the ashes in our garden of remembrance or personally return them to the family within 14 days if preferred. Visit our how it works page for more details about our direct cremation services.

A doctor's fee of £82 used to be charged by the doctor who verified a death. This fee was for the preparation of the legal cremation paperwork. However, as of 9th September 2024, the Government has changed the way deaths are verified. As a result, families no longer have to pay any doctor's fees when arranging a cremation for their loved one.

Would thoroughly recommend Direct Cremation.I bought a plan for my dad and when he passed a few weeks ago I was worried about what would happen to him but Kerry who I can't praise enough from Direct Cremation supported me and explained what would happen every step of the way, reassuring me my dad would be looked after whilst in their care. Her empathy and understanding were simply amazing. She is definitely in the right role and helped ease the pain of my loss more than she will ever know. I felt that I was involved in dad's cremation even though I had handed it over to them. She even called once dad's ashes were returned to check all was ok. Would absolutely choose Direct Cremation again.

Kind, thoughtful and patient funeral arranger. They gently guided me through the process and options. Then kept in touch as we as a family discussed and chose how we wanted the service to be. They kept me aware of where my much loved one was which was comforting at such a confusing time. And also at what happens afterwards. Very highly rated.
